This was a cold weekend, and many in the Southeast experienced their coldest January 20th afternoon on record! Parts of southeast Georgia and Northern Florida could drop below freezing with Freeze Alerts in effect to start Monday.

If you are tired of the cold, we have good news! A warming trend is coming this week with temperatures rising to average, and possibly above average, for many. This will be accompanied by clouds and some precipitation, but at least it will feel a lot warmer.

The south central and southeastern states will likely see the most significant warm up. A ridge of high pressure will build, allowing for southerly winds and an increase in temps. Highs should be in the 70s by midweek.

By the end of the month, there is growing confidence in much above-average conditions for the entire country, with warmer-than-average conditions most likely from the Great Lakes to the Mid-Atlantic. The darker the red doesn't mean the warmer the temperatures, it just means the more confidence the Climate Prediction Center [CPC] has in the above-average temperature forecast.
